Six months have passed since her sister’s death and Melanie took on the role as replacement parent for her niece, Janey. But the two of them cope in different ways, and Melanie fears Janey will become harder and harder to relate to. Can the two of them find a way to deal with the loss together?

About the Author:

Misty Urban is the author of two short story collections: A LESSON IN MANNERS, which won the Serena McDonald Kennedy Award for Fiction (Snake Nation Press, 2016), and THE NECESSARIES (Paradisiac Publishing, 2018). She was the 2017 winner of the Great River Writer’s Retreat sponsored by the Midwest Writing Center. She also publishes medieval scholarship and co-edited the volume of essays MELUSINE’S FOOTPRINT: TRACING THE LEGACY OF A MEDIEVAL MYTH. She teaches writing at Muscatine Community College in Muscatine, Iowa, and is the founding editor of femmeliterate, a website celebrating feminism, literature, and women in/and/of books.
